Space Shuttle Atlantis at KSCVC

This is a view of Space Shuttle Atlantis as it’s displayed at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex—the same view we had when my dear fiancé proposed to me in May. This is the largest watercolor piece I’ve done to date! I went bigger thinking I could use broader strokes, but that somehow translated to “same level of detail on a larger scale”.

In the background, where the projection screen would be, I’ve loosely rendered a view of auroras over the earth as seen from the ISS in pearlescent watercolors—unfortunately it’s hard to capture the effects with a still image. The atmosphere appears with a golden cast, spiked with the green ribbons of aurora.

11×14″, watercolor and pearlescent watercolor on 100% cotton paper.
